For my 40th birthday Troy got me a bike. It is much nicer than any bike I have owned before and I have absolutely loved it. It sits in the garage most of the time, to be honest. I go through phases where I get it out and and take some journeys. Troy and I used to like to ride our bikes over to Girard on the morning of their fall festival, that's a 24 mile round trip. I have ridden it out to Helen's, which I figured was about 19 miles. I ride it to the store sometimes, if I've been riding it and I'm in the mood.
It's got a nice, big comfy seat and a rack I can attach bag to carry stuff in.

On Monday morning I rode it to Liberal, which is 18 miles from my house, and met Troy and Kalyn at my cousin Mary's cafe for lunch. Then we loaded it on the bike rack and went home. But tomorrow morning I have friends coming over bright and early to go to her cafe for breakfast, and then ride back.

We have been talking about riding the Katy trail across Missouri next summer! That is something I could really get excited about doing. So I've been getting it out more.

Monday morning I had to wait until 10:00 because we had a project at home that needed to be taken care of first thing. Our little chicks have been escaping their pen, which is a bad thing with several foxes on the loose here in town. Last year we lost all 8 of our new chicks to a crafty fox, who would run around the pen and work them into a frenzy until they would just run out of the pen where she could snatch them up. So Troy chick-proofed the bottom of the pen Monday morning and I helped.
Besides, I did want to get there about lunch time and so it was perfect timing.

The sun was shining bright and it was beginning to get really hot. I didn't feel the heat too badly until I got to the cafe. It was a really nice ride, pretty even....just a couple hills that required me walking the bike to get to the top. I'm not training for a race, you know. I'm just riding for pleasure. I averaged about 12 miles per hour. And there happened to not be any dogs along this route. Which is also important! Just penned up cows, horses, and some mules.

The advantage to riding later in the morning is less traffic. Everyone is on their way to work at 7:00 am, which is when I left this morning. But once I got out of town:
Ahhhh, Shade!
Ahhh! The morning sun on the water!
The wildflowers! Queen Anne's Lace or Bishop's Weed? I get confused.
The smell of Honeysuckle is what is absolutely amazing on the bike in the country. As well as plowed dirt (yes, I think it does have a smell) and cut grass (lot's of people out cutting grass at 7:00 am).
And the hay bales, and the sunlight through the leaves......

I will clean up a little better before our ride tomorrow morning, ladies! That t-shirt is 17 years old now! I only keep it because it's so old!

Looking forward to biking on a glorious summer morning with friends tomorrow! See ya then!
